Stone of the Month: June 2018"Resting Budda"

This stone creates a feeling of peacefulness, even tranquility, as Buddha in a resting or contemplative mood. The largely brown color with black undertones gives this figure stone a sense of age. This viewing stone from the Czech Republic was collected by and is owned by Igor Barta. It is a sandstone with high iron content, likely in the form of iron oxides. The slow oxidation of the iron creates the brownish color. Stones of this type occur in the Česká Lípa and podještědí regions in the Czech Republic during ancient Tertiary volcanic activity when molten rock and hot solutions infiltrated sandstones.
