"Gothic Spirit"

This dynamic abstract-shaped stone from the Bergamo valleys of Lombardy region of Italy was collected and is owned by Pietro Prudentino. This dense, dark-weathered limestone with its peaks and curves is reminiscent of ancient Gothic architecture. Here it is held in a modern style wood base leaving the window open to another interpretation. This is one of the appeals of abstract stones—multiple interpretations. Abstract-shaped stones from western countries are the least understood of all the stones collected and appreciated for their aesthetic features. But, they can be among the most fascinating of all stones. Stone connoisseurs with an extensive background in Asian stones often prefer these stone to the more obvious mountain-shaped stones. This stone received a citation at the 2016 AIAS convention in Bondeno di Gonzaga, Italy.
