“Weightlifter”

This small stone display was chosen as the feature stone of the month in recognition of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo (held from 23 July to 8 August 2021). The display features a figure stone representing a robust athlete on stage to receive a medal in the weight-lifting competition. The small accompanying wood and cloth figure holds a staff decorated with small lanterns. It is a celebratory feature seen in Japanese competitions. The rock is a Echizen shore stone that is 5 x 7 x 3 cm.
