This Chinese Mohu stone is from the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southwestern China. It is a stone that has been in a collection and appreciated possibly since 1845, according to the calligraphy engraved on this stone. Most of the engraved words are lines from a poem.. This stone may have been in the collection of Wu Yun, a scholar and collector in the mid-1800s. This stone was one of the 112 outstanding Scholars’ Rocks that Kemin Hu presented to the U.S. National Arboretum for their National Bonsai and Penjing Museum.. It is illustrated in the newly published book Cultivated Stones (see book review) The stone is 121.3 x 34.3 x 22.2 cm (47.75 x 13.5 x 8.75 inches).
