This is the eastern most province of Indonesia and occupies half of the island of New Guinea. The highest point in Indonesia is the snow covered Puncak Jaya at 4,884 m (16,023 feet). Numerous rivers flow from the mountains and lush tropical rain forests once covered most of the lower elevations.
