"Creation Stone"

By Tom Goldblum

When I first saw this stone while visiting Mansei-en in Omiya, Japan, the bonsai nursery operated by the Kato family, I was intrigued by how different the stone looked from all of the other stones in my collection. I honed in on the uniqueness and selective beauty of the stone. I have described the stone as the “creation stone.” I see in this creation of the world and the unraveling of the universe to form our world. This is not a mountain stone, figure stone, or any common depiction. This is quite unique, therefore, I was attracted to it. “Creation Stone” is 15.2 x 12.7 x 10.2 cm (6 x 5 x 4 inches).
