Stone of the Month:

February 2022

"American West"

This rugged sloping landscape stone was etched and polished by thousands of years of sand-driven winds in the eastern Mohave Desert in extreme southeastern Nevada. It is a hard dense stone with colors characteristic of the arid regions of the southwestern United States. When I view this stone, I can see pronghorn antelope grazing on the lower slopes or a horse-drawn stagecoach kicking up dust as it passes by. This stone was collected in Clark County in 1998 by Ralph W. Johnson, an avid collector of viewing stones. It was displayed in the 25th California Aiseki Kai exhibition at the Huntington Library, Art Museums, and Botanical Gardens on December 26-31, 2014, and January 2, 2015, in San Marino, California. This stone with a natural bottom is 33 x 8 x 16 cm and weighs 3178 grams (7 pounds).
