Predator

By Joe Grande

This evocative diorama depicts an environment reminiscent of coastal sand dunes with a predatory beast set to pounce on the object of its desire. The use of a piece of natural wood with the stone is a nice example of scale and harmony. The elements in this display are karst limestone from Vancouver Island, maple burl, quartzite from Sandilands and Agassiz Interlobate Moraine. The limestone was bathed in muriatic acid for a few seconds to darken it somewhat. This display is 19.5 cm high, 66 cm wide, and 26 cm deep.
