The Yangtze River is a major source of pattern stones for the stone markets. There are at least two types: those that are natural cobbles removed from gravel beds, and those that are cut, shaped, and polished from sedimentary deposits. Both types can be found in most Chinese stone markets and are relatively inexpensive, however, exceptional patterns can command much higher prices.
