Watermelon stones originate from coastal sea areas of Taitung County, Taiwan. These metamorphic rocks are composed of augite, quartz and feldspar. Their color and striping surface pattern resemble watermelons and these stones range from blackish green, emerald green, purplish green to yellowish green and light green. Since they originate in coastal waters, they have to be cleaned to reveal their surface color and patterns.
