Taihu stones ( 太湖石 ) are heavily water-weathered limestone originally from Lake Tai in Jiangsu province. They are irregular in shape; frequently have numerous holes and channels, often have a smooth texture with rounded edges. The color is more often off-white to cream although yellow, red and black ones are known. Taihu-like weathered stones from other regions are often sold as Taihu stones.
