Songhua stones (松花石) are beautiful colored stones originating from ancient marine limestone. They are presently mined from Changbai Mountain in northeastern Jiling province. They may be greenish due to the presence of chromium and copper or yellowish to reddish due to higher iron contents or even purplish due to the presence of manganese and iron. They range from relatively soft —4.5 Moh—to hard stones.
